Description
What is this?
Accessible Reading is a free WordPress plugin that adds a toggle switch to the top of your post’s content that allows your website visitors to enable/disable Bionic Reading® for its body content.
Your brain reads faster than your eyes! We have an internal dictionary of learned words and reading the first few letters can be enough to recognize whole words.
Bionic Reading® is a new method facilitating the reading process by guiding the eyes through text with artificial fixation points. As a result, the reader is only focusing on the highlighted initial letters and lets the bran center complete the word. In a digital world dominated by shallow forms of reading, Bionic Reading® aims to encourage more in-depth reading and understanding of written content.
Learn More about Bionic Reading®
This WordPress plugin is not a product of Bionic Reading®. It was developed by an independent and disabled developer (me) that wants to bring more accessibility to the digital space.
Why use it?
The internet is filled with neurodiverse and disabled people. Some conditions, such as dyslexia, make reading a challenge. Other neurocognitive conditions like autism and ADHD can make processing what was just read a challenge. The people behind Bionic Reading® developed this digital accommodation to assist people in reading and processing faster by highlighting the first few letters of a word, guiding the eyes to them right away, allowing the brain to essentially autocomplete the word.
Who should use it?
Anybody who cares about accessibility! There’s already a lot of options on making websites more accessible with adjusting font size, contrast, and assisting screen readers, but this plugin is the first to integrate with the Bionic Reading® API.
